NEW MEXICO PECAN FARMING: DAY FOUR
My fourth day photographing in southern New Mexico's pecan orchards was a change. I met the owner of one the larger orchards and pecan companies. He invited me to drive with him to several areas of his operation and I was able to get some interesting shots of harvesting. I learned more of the history of pecan farming in the area and the family relationships. It is very much a 'hands on' operation for most of these owner farmers. Days are long, and much commitment is required. There is no guarantee of the success of the harvest, or its value on what has become a world market for pecans.
