NEW MEXICO PECAN FARMING: DAY ONE
Pecan farming is one of New Mexico's two largest agricultural industries, along with chile production. In 2018 New Mexico became the largest producer of pecans in the US. In January 2020 I began a long term project photographing pecan farming: its uniquely beautiful environment, and those who created this industry and work in these orchards through the year. The photos in this collection are from the first day of this project, taken at one of the Salopek orchards north of Las Cruces NM in the Mesilla Valley just east of the Rio Grande.
